  • Itsy Bitsy Spider...

New Year means new challenges and adventures for WMPC climbers! Check out Mary P. and Dan's adventure in a climbing wall in Hereford...even if you're scared of spiders ;)

"I went on an adventure to Hereford at the end of January to try out green spider climbing with Dan. They’ve got some really nice and different routes which were a lot of fun to try and work out. They’ve also got a huge arch (leading only) which looks like it would be fun to climb, and also a bit scary! I’ll definitely be going back there again at some point, but maybe not the day before a big deadline like this time 😬 Big thank you to Dan for the day and showing me all the best routes!  By Mary P."

  • CWI training reflections

As mentioned in our previous blog post, Sophie Campbell and a group of WMPC volunteers completed their Climbing Wall Instructor (CWI) training. We're pleased to say that Sophie has passed her assessment - congratulations :)

Here are her reflections on the course:

"A couple of weeks ago I finally passed my climbing wall instructor qualification ( I still have to do my first aid training day but the climbing part I passed).

Having been climbing for 10 years I thought it about time I consolidated some of my knowledge to help the club grow and enable our regular sessions on a Friday to have more novice climbers.  Even though I am a relatively experienced climber most of my climbing has been for my own means but things have changed since setting up West Midlands Paraclimbing club as I wanted to give more than I was to society.  I love watching novices grow into competent climbers and get so much out of climbing just like I have these past ten years.

Redpoint Birmingham have been extremely supportive to us as a club so I can't thank them enough, they even let me go and shadow at the weekends to try and further my experience of working with groups to prepare me for the assessment.

Joby Davis was my instructor for the training and my assessment, he is a very thorough and knowledgeable instructor and makes the training and assessment fun and not too scary!  For those who have done the training or are planned to do their training in the coming months if I can do it anyone can! I am happy to go through things with you on a Friday or on any other day when I am doing some personal climbing.

  • First ever AGM goes down in history!

On Saturday the 15th June 2019, the WMPC held their first ever AGM. The minutes of the meeting will be available soon on our website, so for now this is just a short summary of what went on on the day as reported by Sophie.

  • Katy takes it outdoors

This trip marks a momentous occasion for the club member, Katy, as it was the first time she has been climbing outdoors. Tigs, Sophie, Katy, Laly and Folly took a trip down to Wales to give Katy her first outdoor climbing experience. After a few hiccups and set backs they finally got to climbing... But how did Katy feel about it? You can find out by checking out Katy's experience as described in her own words.

  • Stars in Their Eyes? No, in our club!

This is just a sneek peek of what's coming to a (TV) screen near you soon :)

  • We made history :)

WMPC took the Accesible Community Games by storm on Friday 26th April 2019, enabling more than 45 people to have a go at climbing on Redpoint Birmingham's mobile climbing wall!!
